6
Q

can speed brakes be used on ground & in air?

A

Flight & ground spoilers on ground

flight only in air. (used symmetrically for braking & alternately for turning)

7
Q

what do the A & B FLT control switches control?

A

Hydraulic shut off valves

will isolate each aileron, rudder & elevator from related hydraulic system pressure.

Q

what’s cpt control wheel.connected to?

what’s FO control wheel connected to?

A

by cables to Aileron power control units (PCU’S)

by cables to spoiler PCU’S

9
Q

if total hydraulic failure, can aileron still be used?

A

yes

mechanically positioned.
however control forces will be greater.

10
Q

if ailerons or spoilers are jammed?

A

because they are all connected you will be able to feel which side (cpt or FO) is jammed & which side can still provide roll control via respective remaining surface.

11
Q

can aileron trim be used with AP on?

A

it can be applied, but the AP will over power it. There will be no indication shown on scale & when AP is released there may be an abrupt roll

12
Q

what are flight spoiler powered by?

how many are there?

A

Each hydraulic system A & B is dedicated to a different set of spoiler pairs = ensures symmetry in case of hyd failure.

4x on each wing

Hydraulic system A & B

via power control units (PCU) connected with cables to control column

16
Q

control of elevator after total hydraulic loss?

A

can be mechanically positioned.

forces will be higher.

17
Q

stabiliser powered by?

A

electrically by AP or manual trim.

18
Q

elevator/control column jam?

A

override mechanism allows columns to be separated by force.

travel of elev is reduced but enough for control & flare

forces will be higher but stab trim can be used to assist

19
Q

elevator feel system.

what is it?

what it uses?

failure?

A

elev feel computer simulates aerodynamic forces using airspeed & stab position.
transmitted to column by feel & centering unit.

Hyd sys A or B px used (whichever higher)

if hyd or feel sys fails? = excessive diff hyd px is sensed & FEEL DIFF PRESS light on

20
Q

automatic speed brake ground operation

under what conditions?
6

A
  • speed brake lever = Armed
  • speed brake ARMED light = on
  • RAD ALT is less than 10feet
  • Landing gear strut compresses on touchdown.
  • both thrust levers retarded to idle
  • main landing gear wheels spin up (more than 60kts)

(any landing gear strut compression = spoilers can deploy.
Right main gear = ground spoilers to deploy)

21
Q

If speed brake lever in DOWN position during landing, will spoilers deploy?

A

yes if

  • main landing gear wheels spin up (more than 60kts)
  • both thrust levers retarded to idle
  • reverse thrust levers are positioned for reverse thrust
