The death of Somerset meant that the main focus of opposition to York now passed to the Queen and her royal household. York also knew this, as shown by his attempts in his Second Protectorate to attempt to limit the size of Margaret’s household.

York and the Nevilles had taken control of Henry VI. Many people were concerned about this, but none more so than Queen Margaret who believed that they threatened the rights of her son. Margaret formed the nucleus of an opposition group.

York tried to wield power in the wake of St Albans but as he tried to exercise power from London, Margaret set up a rival court in Coventry, at the heart of her husband’s land.
