Q

Who was considered the Moral Relativist in ancient Greek thought and why?

A

Protagoras, because he believed that everything was relative depending on your individual point of view, Protagoras considered that absolute truth was unattainable. This is because what one person might consider to be true, another will believe to be false. Protagoras also believed this dichotomy was present in questions of good and evil.

Q

What is the Socratic Daemon?

A

Socrates often mentions that he is guided by a daemon, a kind of divine spirit, oracle, or “sign,” that takes the form of an inner voice or non-vocal nudge. The guide never tells Socrates what to do. It only indicates when Socrates is not to do something. This distinction is important. His Daemon informed him to refrain from withdrawing from Athens, despite a warrant out for his incarceration and execution, and stayed and suffered the penalty of death.

Q

What are Platonic Forms?

A

The Forms are abstract, perfect, unchanging concepts or ideals that transcend time and space; they exist in the Realm of Forms. Even though the Forms are abstract, that doesn’t mean they are not real. In fact, the Forms are more ‘real’ than any individual physical objects.
