When severe weather or ….. occur in the city of Elyria thereby creating a large number of responses by on duty crews, the following considerations shall be considered and placed into action by the on-duty shift commander and company officers.

The Shift Commander must take into consideration that when a severe weather event strikes Elyria, other surrounding cities will also be strained with the same types of calls, i.e.. lines down, trees into houses, flooded roadways etc. Calls need to be triaged by the Shift Commander based obviously on immediate threat to human life, the Shift Commander also needs to determine the necessity of an ….. and also attempt to keep some firefighting force available if possible.

Below are some items to consider as the Shift Commander;
- The absolute need to have units “criss-cross” the city responding to service calls, i.e. Engine 4 to 10th Street for a downed power line with no arcing or sparking can this call be put onto a list to be handled when a closer company becomes available or recalled crews report for duty
- Placing a Station 1 Firefighter if available i.e. 4th member of Tower 8 to stay at station 1 and begin a list of calls pending
- Advising Dispatch to stop alerting stations of calls and simply go to a system of notifying the station 1 firefighter or themselves via phone or radio of the incoming calls
- Mutual Aid shall only be considered in the event of a …..
- Consider triaging EMS responses to only those that are severe such as heart attack, full arrests, person not breathing

Any tree issues where trees are down and blocking city public ways such as a street or in the event a tree as caused an extrication emergency, call or go through the EFD command officer at EPD Dispatch (440-323-3302) to dispatch the ……. Trees on private property are the owners responsibility. The City does not handle emergency tree removal in public ways.
