Q

What is Nauru Airlines Contingency fuel policy?

A

All flights require a secondary reserve fuel to compensate for unforeseen factors and must not be less than either of the following:

Before dispatch:
1. 5% of the trip fuel or from a point inflight of replanning to the planned DESTINATION
2. 5 minutes at hold speed at planned arrival weight at 1500ft AFE.

Whichever is more.

Q

What is Nauru Airlines Final reserve fuel policy?

A

Minimum fuel required to fly an aeroplane at hold speed at the aeroplane’s estimated weight for 30 minutes at 1 500 ft above DEST or ALT aerodrome elevation in ISA conditions.
NOTE: This fuel must be planned to be remaining on completion of the final landing at the aerodrome unless it’s an emergency..

Q

What is the minimum fuel required to fly to DOMESTIC airport in Australia without any extra HOLDING or ALTERNATE fuel required?

A
  1. Taxi fuel
  2. TRIP Fuel (to fly from DEP-ARR)
  3. APP (200kg) and DEP (400kg) fuel.
  4. Contingency fuel, which must be no less than 5% of the trip fuel or from a point in flight to the DEST and conduct an IAP.
  5. Final reserve fuel, which is the minimum fuel required to fly an aeroplane at hold speed at the aeroplane’s estimated weight for 30 minutes at 1 500 ft above DEST or ALT aerodrome elevation in ISA conditions. (This fuel may be reduced to 15 minutes for decompression calculations.)
  6. 15 minutes hold fuel at hold speed at planned arrival weight at 1500ft AFE.

Q

What is the minimum statutory requirements applicable to Nauru Airlines fuel policy?

A

Aircraft Captains are to uplift sufficient fuel to ensure that at any stage of a planned flight there is adequate fuel for:

  1. Flight from the departure aerodrome to the destination aerodrome and flight to an alternate aerodrome if required
  2. The provision of all reserves
  3. Holding as required by the state regulations at the destination and/or alternate aerodrome.

Q

Is it permissible to depart without enough fuel to meet the required statutory or Company reserves requirements?

A

Yes, you may plan the fuel uplift before departure on the basis of landing at an intermediate or suitable aerodrome where more fuel can be uplifted to satisfy holding/alternate fuel reserve requirement. The flight may also continue to the destination if it is found, at the point at which the flight has been re-flight planned, the remaining fuel reserves are equal to, or better than, the required statutory or Company reserves for the remainder of the flight at that point. If planned fuel uplift is based on this procedure, minimum contingency fuel of five minutes must be carried. (5.1.34.1)

Q

What are the ‘Relevant weather conditions.’

A
  1. Cloud> SCT below the relevant minima;
  2. Visibility is less than the relevant minima or a forecast contains a probability indicator of at least 30% or greater of fog, mist, dust or any other phenomenon restricting visibility below the relevant minima;
  3. Wind component including gust> aircraft max.
  4. Thunderstorm or its associated severe turbulence (at least a probability of 30% or greater required)

14
Q

When an alternate aerodrome is required, what is the extra fuel required on top of your normal fuel requirements?

A
  1. Fly a missed approach at the destination.
  2. Fuel to proceed to the nominated alternate aerodrome and complete an instrument approach, with considerations taken for depressurisation and or and engine failure enroute.

16
Q

Are you allowed to take off without holding fuel and/or IAP fuel?

A

Yes, fuel for an instrument approach and holding at the destination need not be carried if you plan to recalculate fuel reserves en route and a suitable en route aerodrome is available.

17
Q

Can weather and traffic holding fuel be calculated cumulatively?

A

Yes

18
Q

What is the Maximum amount of reserve fuel that will suffice all regulatory requirements?

A

Fuel to cruise at final cruising level for two hours PLUS final reserve fuel may be applied.

19
Q

What emergency scenarios MUST be considered when calculating adequate fuel scenarios?

A

EF in cruise and Depressurisation.

Most critical point is at the EP.

20
Q

If you suffered an engine failure or lost pressurisation before passing an ETP, should you turn back or fly towards the ETP?

A

Turn back.

21
Q

What is the most limiting scenario for the B737?

A

Flying depressurised at FL100 with two engines operative.

22
Q

When must a TAF be valid for as per the planning requirements?

A

30 minutes before and 60 minutes after your ETA.

23
Q

Do TAF3’s require 30 min buffer periods for fuel planning purposes?

A

No.

24
Q

What is the fuel burn used to calculate the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) running in flight?

A

45 kgs per hour.

25
Q

What is the term used when carrying fuel above the minimum fuel required called?

A

Extra fuel (used be known as Marginal fuel)

26
Q

When MUST fuel remaining be noted on the flight plan?

A

At each waypoint

27
Q

When must a MAYDAY FUEL be declared?

A

When you plan to land with less than the planned final fuel reserve.

28
Q

What should crew do in a “MIN Fuel’ scenario?

A

If possible, the crew are to divert the flight to a more suitable aerodrome, or follow procedures listen in Vol7 of the Jeppesen Airway Manual.

29
Q

When planning to land at an intermediate aerodrome to refuel, what is the minimum contingency fuel required?

A

5 minutes

30
Q

Is weather and holding fuel cummilative?

A

Yes

31
Q

What is the most limiting fuel scenario for a B737?

A

Depressurised with two engines operative.

32
Q

At what rate is APU usage calculated?

A

45kg/hr
