What are the clinical features of bulimia nervosa?
A
- People often have a normal body weight, often accompanied by weight fluctuations
- Tooth erosion
- Swollen salivary glands
- Mouth ulcers
- GORD
- Alkalosis (loss of hydrochloric acid from the stomach)
- Hypokalaemia
- Russel’s sign

A
Found in people with bulimia nervosa
Calluses on the knuckles where they have scraped against teeth

How often do binge eating and compensatory behaviours have to occur to make a diagnosis of bulimia nervosa?
A
At least once weekly for 3 months

What is 1st line management of bulimia nervosa?
A
CBT
*Children should be offered bulimia nervosa focused family therapy (FT-BN)

What is 1st line pharmacological management of bulimia nervosa?

SSRIs (fluoxetine)
