Q

Examples of contact forces

A
  • Buoyancy
    • The buoyant force is the upward force on an object fully or partly immersed in a fluid.
  • Normal Forces
    • the support force exerted upon an object that is in contact with another stable object (box on table)
  • Friction
    • the force exerted by a surface as an object moves across it or makes an effort to move across it
  • Tension
    • the force that is transmitted through a string, rope, cable or wire when it is pulled tight by forces acting from opposite ends

Q

Examples of non-contact forces

A
  • Gravitation
    • a force that attracts any two objects with mass
  • Electrostatic force
    • attraction or repulsion that arises between electrically charged particles because of their motion
  • Magnetism

Q

Difference between contact and non-contact

A
  • Contact force occurs due to the contact between two different objects.
  • Non-contact force occurs due to either attraction or repulsion between two objects such that there is no contact between these objects.
