Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI)
Estimated measure of the power level that a radio frequency client device is receiving from a wireless access point or wireless router
What’s a good rating for decibels when looking at signal strength?
closer to 0 is better, closer to 100 is bad
Effective Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP)
measured in dBi.
Vertical Antenna
Radio frequency waves extend outward in all directions away from the antenna and the wireless access point at an equal power level
Dipole Antenna
produces radio frequency outward in two directions
Yagi Antenna
unidirectional that sends it only in one direction; uses less power
Parabolic Grid Antenna
Most commonly used for site to site; unidirectional
Polarization
The orientation of the electric field (or transmission) from the antenna; most wifi networks use vertical polarization
Site Survey
Process of planning and designing a wireless network to provide the required wireless solution
Coverage
a measure of how much area around a wireless transmitter is there sufficient signal strength for wireless
Interference
Occurs when multiple wireless networks communicate on the same channel using the same frequency

10-15%
Attenuation
Reduction of signal because of walls, materials, etc.
Multipath Reception
Occurs when the transmitted signal bounces of walls and other physical objects and then is redirected to the receiver
Deauthentication Attack
A common wireless attack used by hackers to disassociate wireless clients and make them attempt to reconnect to the access point
