Deep Frictions Flashcards

1
Q

What are the effects of deep frictions?

A

1. Friction stimulates fibre orientation in regenerating connective
tissue

2. Friction prevents adhesion formation and ruptures unwanted adhesions

As transverse friction aims basically to achieve transverse
movement of the collagen structure of the connective tissue,
crosslinks and adhesion formation are prevented

3. Friction induces a traumatic hyperemia.
* Forceful deep friction produces vasodilatation and increased blood
flow to the area.

4. Increases the rate of protein synthesis by mechanotransduction

Q

Where can you use deep frictions?

A
  • Chronic scar tissue
  • Supraspinatus tendonosis, impingement syndrome
  • Tennis elbow or tendonosis of the common flexor or extensor
    tendons of the forearms
  • Achilles tendonosis
  • Plantar fasciitis

Q

Demonstrate / describe deep friction

A
  • put muscle in shortened position
  • place pressure onto localised scar tissue point
  • rub deep tissue cross fibre for 2.5mins
  • repeat ~4 times with breaks (10mins)
