Steps of counselling

A
  1. who is the patient
  2. have you seen an MD
  3. Assess symptoms (get to tell you about it - probe)
  4. Contemplate tentative course of action in head
  5. Assess patient health status (questioning may differ with age)
  6. State your recommendation. Relieve concern, reassure in what they’re doing, non-drug could be used in wait and see situation
  7. Provide info on proper use (focus on getting the right drug over how to use it - is in package)
