A

They had lived independently without Britain’s involvement for several years and had previously been ignored. Now all of a sudden the Parliament and King are forcing them to pay taxes while still not treating them like British subjects.

A

It was the first tax passed directly on the colonies. It affected everyone. Tax collectors were imported from Britain in order to do the job.

A

Prior to George the 3rd, the government and parliament had been controlled by Whigs - they had a mindset more related to the colonies. Thus, the colonies remained largely independent. George was the opposite.
