This a fibrinous pneumonia.
* Affected parts: usually the cranioventral lung regions. They feel consolidated/hard and not spongy.

Q

This is pleurisy. Why might this occur?

A

A variety of reasons
* Bout of Pasteurella pneumonia which the lamb survives
* As a complication of navel ill
* Bacterial infection picked up around birth

Q
A

Pasteurella trehalosi septicaemia
* A fast acting septicaemia
* Carcass features: haemorrhage all over, enlarged throat lymph nodes (blue arrow), defects/reddening/green-beige deposit on lining of oesophagus

Q
A

Enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae
* Slowly progressive, usually non-fatal
* Clinical signs: cough and reduced growth rates
* May be incidental finding at slaughter
* Carcass: small white foci with areas of purple heavy lung
* Lesions are i the cranioventral lung lobes

12
Q

How would you differentiate between an abscess, a CLA abscess, and an OPA mass?

A
  • Abscess = smooth and firm
  • CLA abscess = irregular and firmer mass with laminated pus
  • OPA mass = solid and does not have a capsule

Many people diagnose by incising but it can be done by touch too.

16
Q
A

Chronic lung abscessation/endocarditis
* Source of condition loss/death in older sheep
* Cause: a focus of infection somewhee getting into bloodstream and settling in lung or heart valves
* Control: if this occurs at high prevalence, investigate lameness and needle hygiene

17
Q

What condition is represented here?

A

Ovine Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma (OPA)

A

Ovine Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma (OPA)

19
Q
A

OPA
* Virus that causes lung tumours. Typically seen in adult ewes.
* Causes hard white areas, sometimes large consolidated regions, sometimes speckled
* Affects any part of the lungs
* There is usually much white froth in the airways
