A
The simultaneous recording of demographic data by the government at a particular time pertaining to all the persons who live in a particular territory

- Run by government
- Covers a defined area
- Personal enumeration (or a person in each
household completes Census form) - Simultaneous throughout defined area
- Universal coverage
- Occurs at regular intervals (10 yrs in UK)

Birth Notification
A
- By attendant at birth, usually midwife
- Within 36 hours to local Child Health Register * For relevant services such as immunisations

- By parent
- Within 42 days to local Registrar for Births
- For statistical purposes

- Statutory obligation for attending doctor
- Legally required to provide information on likely
cause(s) of death - Notify Coroner’s Officer if unusual or unsure
