Mechanism of action of benzoyl peroxide?

A

bactericidal against Cutibacterium acnes,
Nitrogen binding, kills bacteria that cause acne.
Also remove dead skin cells (i.e., skin peeling)

Benzoyl peroxide, once absorbed by the skin, is converted to benzoic acid.

Approximately 5% of the benzoic acid is systemically absorbed and excreted by the renal system

A

increases mitotic activity –> increase cell turnover. –> skin shedding/peeling. Comedomes can be expelled.
