What is culture
Shared practices, technologies, attitudes, and behaviors
Custom
A group of people who repetitively repeat an act to the point where it becomes a characteristic. A tradition
Taboo
A restriction on behavior imposed by a group of people. Anything that is Against a culture or a law
Habit
A repetitive act performed by a particular individual
Folk culture
Diffused by people, cultures and man made things
Pop culture
Diffused by modern technology’s and the media
Long lot settlement pattern
Linear settlement where lot has access to key resources
Material culture
The visible objects made and used by a culture. Ex: buildings, instruments, clothes
Non material culture
Invisible objects, beliefs myths values and symbolic meanings
Cultural traits
All traits, both non material and material
Local (folk) culture
Opposed to change, connected to land, pass down traditions
Indigenous cultures
No longer the dominant group. First people there. EX: native Americans
Pop culture
Influences by urban areas, accepts change, usually the young Drive the change
Cultural attitudes
Concept or ideas in a society, shaped by beliefs and perspectives
Language
A mutually agreed upon system of symbolic communication
