Empiricism, Nativism, and Constructivism
what is empiricism about?
is the idea that we started with nothing, then we just learn, and learn and learn as we go.
what is nativism about?
is associated with Noam Chomsky, it basically rejects the idea that learning plays an important role. It says that we are already born with powerful structural systems in our brains.
what is a constructivist view?
it was defended by John Piaget, it’s the idea that learning and dealing with our environment is what makes us who we are. But it also shares with the Nativism idea that the mind is powerful.
