Encompass all the development that occurs from birth throughout life. It can be broken down into:

  • Biological Development: development of the body
  • Cognitive development: mental processes
  • Psychosocial Development: emotions, personality, social interactions
  • Periods of life: can be broken down into stages and changes, or grouped together
