light dependent reaction Flashcards
what is the light dependent reaction?
the Light dependent reaction is the initial part of photosynthesis.
what does the light dependent reaction need to start?
light and water is needed for the reaction to happen.
what does the light dependent reaction produce?
it produces ATP, NADPH, and oxygen.
where does the light dependent reaction happen?
in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts
what is the equation for the light dependent reaction?
H2O ⇒ H+ + E- + O2
E- = electrons
what is the first step of the light dependent reaction?
Water in the cell is split into hydrogen, oxygen, and electrons. Which is used in the reaction. The oxygen is released into the atmosphere.
what is the second step of the light dependent reaction?
The hydrogen goes into ATP synthase creating a charge that allows ATP to be made. the hydrogen binds with ADP and a phosphate to make ATP.
what is the fourth step of the light dependent reaction?
Light hits photosystem 2, heating up an electron from the water.
what is the fifth step of the light dependent reaction?
The electron goes along the electron transport chain (E.T.C)
what is the sixth step of the light dependent reaction?
The electron goes to photosystem 1, but its needs to get hit again with light to recharge, so it gets hit again.
what is the seventh step of the light dependent reaction?
The electron gets hit with light, and is picked up by NADP+, a carrier protein.
what is the eighth step of the light dependent reaction?
The electron and the hydrogen ion from the water is used to make NADPH with NADP+.
what is the ninth step of the light dependent reaction?
light and water start the process over again.
overall, what does the light dependent reaction do?
Light dependent reactions use water, light, and carbon dioxide to make ATP and NADPH
did you look at the photo of the light dependent reaction in your notes?
