Q

Describe gravimetric analysis.

A

The ion which is needed to be analysed is converted into a insoluble salt of known composition that can be separated from the sample and reweighed.

Q

What are some conditions of gravimetric analysis.

A
  1. ion to be analysed must be completely precipitated.
  2. precipitate must be a pure compound
  3. precipitate must be easily filtered out.

Q

Steps of gravimetric analysis.

A
  1. prepare a solution containing known weight of the sample.
  2. separate the desired ion by precipitation
  3. weigh the isolated precipitate
  4. find the amount of the particular constituent in the sample from the weight and composition of the precipitate obtained.
