Where does the main trunk of the mandibular nerve leave the cranial base?
The foramen ovale (and enters the infratemporal fossa)

The branch to supply the medial pterygoid

Name the branches of the anterior trunk of the mandibular nerve.
Long buccal nerve - sensory
Deep temporal nerves - motor
Nerve to the lateral pterygoid - motor
Nerve to the masseter - motor
Is the anterior branch of the mandibular nerve a motor or sensory nerve?

Motor to muscles of mastication (except medial pterygoid)

sensory - The auriculotemporal branch

What does the lingual nerve supply?
Sensory supply to the anterior 2/3rds of the tongue
Special sensory for taste
sensory innervation to The floor of the mouth
Sensory innervation to The lingual gingiva
Describe how the lingual nerve provides special sensory innervation for taste.
The sensory fibres from the anterior 2/3rds of the tongue leave the taste buds via the lingual nerve and travel to the chorda tympani.
The chorda tympani then carries this information to the facial nerve, the FN then delivers the information for taste to the brainstem.
Describe the lingual nerves secretomotor function to the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands.
The preganglionic parasympathetic fibres leave the superior salivatory nucleus in the pons of the brainstem via the facial nerve
The chorda tympani then carries the information from the facial nerve to the lingual nerve.
The fibres then enter the submandibular ganglion via the lingual nerve and synapse.
(submandibualr ganglion controls both glands)

What nerve supplies sensory innervation to the TMJ and the skin in front of the ear?
