A

Families were affected by the Depression by it making problems already present in the families much worse. Many families didn’t have money to feed their children and many families put off giving birth altogether. The marriage rate also slumped and the number of divorces increased.

A

Americans blamed themselves for the depression because they felt shame, doubt, and pessimism. Their mindset was, “If we hadn’t bought…” We bought too many things on credit or installment buying and then couldn’t pay for them.

A

The Depression affected men by making them feel like failures because of America’s previous culture. That culture had stressed male reliance and male-bred winning, but the average man couldn’t help with the problems they were facing. They become depressed and mental illness becomes common for them.

They started to spend their time more indoors doing things like reading, listening to the radio, going to the movies, instead of doing things outdoors like playing tennis, swimming or boating.
Women made their own clothes.
