specific latent heat energy Flashcards

1
Q

Why does temperature not increase while melting or boiling?

A

•when melting or boiling you’re still putting in energy so increasing the internal energy but the energy is used for breaking bonds between particles rather than changing temperature

Q

why are there flat spots on a heating graph?

A

to show when energy is being transferred by heating or energy is being released when bonds are forming but not being used to change temperature e.g when melting or boiling

Q

why does temperature not change while condensing or freezing?

A

•because bonds are forming between particles which releases energy. This means the internal energy decreases but the the temperature doesn’t go down untill all the substance has turned to a liquid or solid.
