Triangle Trade

A

Over one trade route, Europeans transported manufactured goods to the west coast of Africa. There, traders exchanged these goods for captured Africans. The Africans were then transported across the Atlantic and sold in the West Indies. Merchants brought sugar, coffee, and tobacco in the West Indies and sailed to Europe with these products.

A

People would serve a ‘master’ for a certain amount of time and they were bound by a contract because the ‘master’ paid for them to come overseas, typically to the Americas. These people were not considered slaves but they also did not have many rights so their master could treat them however they wanted.
