Why did South Asians migrate to England?
- There was violence in some parts of South Asia after the war.
- Due to the British Nationality Act any countries in the British Empire where qualified for a British Passport.
- Some places in South Asia had suffered floods and famine.

- South Asians were disliked.
- British people didn’t like the idea of sharing their land.

This made discrimination illegal in public places but didn’t apply to things like housing, employment and mortgages.

the Commonwealth Immigration Act meant you had to show a close connection to the UK.
