4
Q

Why does reactivity increase down the group 1 metals?

A

Because the atoms get larger, meaning, the outer electron gets further from the nucleus.

Q

Why is the reactivity larger down group 1?

A

As you go down the group, the reactivity increases. Lithium is the least reactive and francium is the most. This is because the negative electron in the outer shell is further away from the positive nucleus, in potassium than lithium. Therefore, it is less attracted o the positive nucleus meaning it can be lost easily.
