Q

Acute Kidney Injury

A

Patho:
Cause:
Diagnose: caught in oliguric phase typically (oliguria, specific gravity is 1.007-1.01, creatine and BUN elevated)
CM:
Manage: with dehydration=IVF, with overload=diuretics. Strict I&Os
Comp: CKD

Q

Phases of AKI

A

Initiating phase- asymptomatic
Oliguric phase- decreased UOP
Diuretic phase- body compensates, increased UOP, electrolytes will decrease
Recovery phase- labs normalize

Chronic Kidney Disease

A

Patho:
Cause: untreated AKI, HTN, DM
Diagnose:
CM: increased K, increased phosph and decreased Ca, decreased Na. elevated BUN and creatinine.
Treat:
Comp: elevated K leading to vfib.

Q

Polycystic Kidney Disease

A

Patho: cysts destroying renal tissue, childhood vs adult
Cause: genetic, autoimmune
Diagnose: CT scan
CM: no early signs. first sign= HTN. hematuria, flank pain, abdominal pain.
Treat: renal transplant is only cure. dialysis as bridge.
Comp: high risk for a
