Lenin to Stalin Flashcards

Q

Ending The War 1918: why was ending the war such a challenge for the Bolsheviks

-On what terms did the Bolsheviks view necessary for a revolution to break out?

-why did Trotsky keep negotiations for so long ?

-Why did Trotsky want revolution in the west

A

-The bolsheviks believed that a revolution could not take place without the help of workers’ support in advanced capitalist societies. They believed that the war would collapse into a series of civil wars that would trigger a workers’ revolution, following the example of Russia

-However, it failed to materialise

Trosky discussed terms with Germany and kept negotiations in hopes that a revolution would break out in Austria or Germany
-Trotsky believed that a new workers’ state would not be able to hold out against the pressures of a hostile capitalist world unless socialist revolutions quickly took hold in other countries as well.
