Q

How does glucose get into respirating cells ?

A

Digestion breaks carbohydrates into smaller glucose molecules

These molecules are absorbed by the wall of the small intestine, into the blood stream

Glucose is then transported around the body in blood

This glucose then diffuses into cells and reaches the mitochondria

Q

How does oxygen get into respiring cells ?

A

When breathing in, oxygen fills the alveoli of the lungs

Oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream

Oxygen is carried by the red blood cells in your body

Red blood cells contain hemoglobin

Oxygen attaches to the hemoglobin and gets transported around the blood

The oxygen is released into cells that require oxygen for respiration

16
Q

How does carbon dioxide leave respiring cells ?

A

Carbon dioxide leaves the body when exhaling

Carbon dioxide diffuses out of the respiring cell and into the blood

The blood transports it to the lungs where it diffuses into the alveoli and out of the body as you breath out

17
Q

How to test carbon dioxide ?

A

Lime water is a clear liquid which turns milky in the presence of carbon dioxide
