Q

What is a benign tumor? What is a malignant tumor?

A

Benign tumors, non invasive tumors
tend to grow slowly and do not spread.

Malignant tumors, cancerous, invasive
can grow rapidly, invade and destroy nearby normal tissues, and spread throughout the body.

Q

What is the normal function of tumor suppressor genes?
Why do mutations in these genes lead to cancer?

Q

What is the normal function of genome stability genes?
Why do mutations in these genes lead to cancer?

A

preserve and faithfully transmit the genetic material from generation to generation or from one somatic cell to another.
