Forgiveness is a prominent theme in Christianity
Christian’s believe god forgives them their sins if they confess them
When working for peace and harmony and trying to rebuild relationships after a wrongdoing forgiveness is essential
Enables wrongs to be acknowledged and relationships to be rebuilt
Enables a deeper spiritual understanding
What are the examples of forgiveness for Christianity
The lord prayer- “forgive us as we forgive others”
Matthew 6:15
Matthew 18:21-35 Jesus told his disciples that they should forgive people “not seven times but 77
Jesus own example on the cross was to say to those crucifying him “father forgive them for they know not what they do”
What are the catholics teachings on forgiveness
Forgiveness comes through confession and religious acts of atonement. And the sacrament of penance
Gods forgiveness is granted through the priests pardon after confession

In Islam there are 2 kinds of forgiveness- gods forgiveness and human forgiveness
Human beings need both as they make mistakes towards god and others
According to the Quran there are no limit to gods forgiveness especially towards those who are penitent
Those who forgive others will be rewarded by god and it is the path to peace

Surah 42:30 “and whatever strikes you of disaster-it’s what your hands have earned but he pardons much
Surah 64:14 “if you pardon and overlook and forgive then indeed god is forgiving and merciful”
The example of Muhammad includes an occasion where he helped and old woman who had fallen sick even though she had repeatedly brushed dust in his direction
What is the Christian example of forgiveness
Dee walker is the mother of Anthony walker who was murdered during a racially motivated attack in liverpool in 2005. As a Christian she felt it important to follow the example and teachings of Jesus and forgive her sons killers. “I have to forgive them. I cannot hate. Hate is what killed Anthony”
What are the examples of Muslims forgiveness in action
Khaled Hosseini was born in Afghanistan where his father was a diplomat. Hosseini became a doctor and moved to america but many of his family remaining in Afghanistan were imprisoned or disappeared. He became a goodwill envoy for the United nations high commissioner for refugees and set up the khaled hosseini foundation a non profit organisation that builds shelter for refugee families and provides education, healthcare and economic opportunities in Afghanistan
