A

VTS will provide tidal advisory broadcast when the height of tide exceeds 10fr in Seattle. When tidal state exceeds 10fr in Seattle vessels should proceed at a safe speed to minimize risk of wake damage

Currents rich pass

A

1) current velocities increase from E to W in Rich pass. The strongest observers currents were 4kts on the flood and 5kts on the ebb between Pt. Glover and Pt. White. Ferry pilots have experienced ebb currents of at least 6kts in the vicinity of light “10”
2) Eddie’s and counter currents in the ebb greatly diminish the effective width of the passage and increase the velocities in the channel.
3) outbound deep draft vessels making the sharp turn may be unavoidably set well over toward the east shore, necessitating a 2 blast, starboard to starboard meeting with inbound vessels.

A

As a rule the tidal currents have little velocity. At times however with a falling tide an appreciable current will be found setting NW along the waterfront.
