Q

Leader to fly line knot

A

Most fly lines have loops and leaders have loops, so use the loop to loop connection, if no loop-to-loop use an Albright (very different size lines), Nail Knot (different size lines) or Blood Knot (similar size lines) but blood not not best choice..

Q

The 16/20 knot is also know as the?

Q

Name useful salt water knots?

A

Same as standard (Perfection Loop, Surgeons, Clinch etc…), but also:
Bimini Twist - The Bimini is considered to be a 100% knot – providing 100% line strength. It creates a double line with a loop at the end to which a leader can be attached with a loop-to-loop connection.
Non-slip loop knot
Spider Hitch - The Spider Hitch quickly forms a double line. It is not considered to be as durable as a Bimini Hitch but is much faster and easier to tie.

Q

What is a Blood Knot?

A

The Blood knot is a simple, easily learned and very effective way of joining two similar sized lines.

Ex. when joining sections of leader or tippet, and is one of the best knots for this purpose.

Q

What is a nail knot?

A

The Nail Knot is a time tested and popular knot to join fly line to leader.

16
Q

What is an Arbor knot?

A

An arbor knot is commonly used to attach fishing line backing to fishing spools.

Consist of two simple overhand knots and can provide more security than a simple overhand knot would provide.

17
Q

What is an Albright knot?

A

The Albright Knot is one of the most reliable knots for joining lines of greatly unequal diameters or different materials such as monofilament to braided line.

Excellent to attach fly line to leader material,

Can even cut off a factory welded loop to use the Albright!

Go-to choice knot for tying dacron backing to fly line for most fly fishermen.

18
Q

How many common knots I use and names?

A

15 knots:

16/20 - Pitzen, Eugene or Fishermans knot, Excellent for very light tippet
Albright - To tie two different diameter lines together, passes through
guides easy
Arbor - used to attach fishing line backing to fishing spools.
Blood - easily learned and very effective way of joining two similar sized
lines.
Ex. when joining sections of leader or tippet, and is one of the best
knots for this purpose.
Clinch - attaching tippet to fly, swivel, ring or snap.
Improved Clinch knot
Davey - Excellent when tying with short piece of tippet, like a tag end, reduces waste and real good for small flies.
George Daniels dry fly knot.
Nail - Nail Knot is a time tested and popular knot to join fly line to leader.
Good for two different size lines.
No-slip loop - need movement in fly.
Orvis - tippet to fly, strong & fast.
Orvis Tippet - Quick easy tippet to fly, snap, ring, swivel.
Perfection Loop - loop-to-loop connections - flyline to leader
Surgeons - Leader to tippet, building or extending tapered leaders, &
tippet,
Uni-knot - Multi-purpose. Backing to spool, flyline to leader, tippet to
flies, swivels, snaps and rings.

19
Q

Benefits of the Davy knot?

A

The Davy knot is one of the most popular knots in competitive fly fishing, as it is:

  • strong,
  • fast to tie,
  • uses less material.

The Davy knot is basically a figure 8 knot.

20
Q

Difference between Blood, Nail and Albright knot?

A

Blood knot best for connecting SAME OR SIMILAR size lines;
Nail knot best for connecting two DIFFERENT size line;
Albright knot best for connecting GREATLY DIFFERENT size lines.

21
Q

How many knot connections on rod setup:

A

5

Backing to reel
Backing to flyline
Flyline to leader
Leader to tippet
Tippet to fly

Add extra for extending or tapering leaders or tippet, tags and droppers, swivels, snaps or rings.
