How long does a LSCS take and how long a hospital stay does it involve?

Answer 1

-Procedure = 40-50 mins
-Hospital stay = 3-4 days

Question 2

What are the intended benefits of a LSCS?

Answer 2

-To secure the safest / quickest route of delivery in the circumstances present at the time of the decision
-Where anticipated risks to the mother / baby of an alternative mode of delivery outweigh those of a LSCS

Question 3

What post-op advice should you give?

Answer 3

-Mobilise as much as possible
-Can hold / carry baby when home
-Can take 6 weeks to feel back to normal
-Seek medical attention if:
–Wound is red / swollen
–Have a temperature
–SOB
–Swelling or pain in calf
–Heavy bleeding

What are the different categories of C-section?

Answer 4

Category 1 = emergency to be performed within 30mins of decision, immediate threat to life
Cat 2 = emergency to be performed within 75mins, non-immediate threat to life
Cat 3 = no threat to life but birth is necessary soon
Cat 4 = elective

-Placenta praevia
