What are the three types of ligaments?
Collateral, Palmer and Sesamoiden
What is the main function of ligaments?
Holds structures together and keeps them stable
What is the MCP?
The metacarpophalangeal joint
What is the PIP?
The proximal Inter-Phalangeal joint
What is the DCP?
The Distal Inter-Phalangeal Joint
Where is the palmar annular ligament situated?
Over the MCP/ Fetlock joint
Where is the proximal annular ligament situated?
Over the Proximal part of the P1 (Long pastern bone)
Where is the Distal annular ligament situated?
Over the Distal part of the p1 (long pastern bone)
What is the function of the annular ligaments?
Keeps the flexor tendons in place
What is the suspensory ligament the remains of?
Tendinous remains of Interosseous muscle
What is the purpose of the suspensory ligament?
To prevent hyper-extension of the fetlock
What is the purpose of the check ligament associated with the DDFT?
Helps stiffen the tendon/ shock absorption
Where does the DDFT insert?
Palmar aspect of the distal phalanx, It passes over the navicular bone
Where is the superficial digital flexor tendon found?
It is closely associated with the DDFT and inserts either side of the proximal interphalangeal joint
What is the manica flexoria and what is its significance?
Proximal level of sesamoid bones, where the SSDT flattens and wraps around the DDFT
