what is the function of RBCs?
carry 02 round the body
what is the function of WBCs and platelets?
repair and host defences
what is the function of plasma and plasma proteins?
transport nutrients/medicines round the body
what indicates anaemia?
low haemoglobbin count (NOT RBCs)
what indicates leukopenia?
low WBCs count
what indicates thrombocytpenia
low platelet count
what indicates pancytopenia ?
all blood cells reduced
what would multiple blood cell problems indicate?
a bone marrow issue
what are the two cell lineages?
myeloid (all other blood cells) and lymphoid (b and T cells)
what can be determined by looking at which lineage a cancer was derived from?
cancer behaviour
what is porphyria?
abnormal haemoglobin metabolism/synthesis
what can trigger porphyria in a dental setting?
LA- always consult with specialist if porphyria is known
what are the clinical effects of porphyria?
photosensitive rash
hypertension
tachycardia
motor/sensory changes
seizures
