1.3 Cloud Models Flashcards
N10-009 Obj. 1.3 Summarize cloud concepts and connectivity options (13 cards)
What is a public cloud?
A cloud environment accessible to anyone over the internet, used for publicly available applications.
“…an application that anyone on the internet would need to access… in a public cloud…” (0:10–0:16)
What is a private cloud?
A cloud infrastructure used internally by an organization, often hosted in a local data center.
“…cloud-based application that is for internal use only… private cloud.” (0:22–0:28)
What is a hybrid cloud?
A combination of public and private cloud resources used together for flexibility.
“…a hybrid configuration of both public and private clouds…” (0:34–0:38)
What is Software as a Service (SaaS)?
A fully managed application accessed through a browser; no installation or management required by the user.
On-demand Software - No local installation, central management of data
“…login screen on your browser… access the application… you don’t manage or upgrade…” (0:45–1:17)
Give an example of a SaaS application.
Google Mail or Office 365.
“…an app like Google Mail or Office 365…” (1:37–1:41)
What is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)?
A model where the cloud provider supplies computing hardware, and the user installs and manages the software.
Sometimes called Hardware as a Service (HaaS).
Your data is still out there, but more within your control
“…you would be responsible for installing your software and managing all of the data…” (2:12–2:18)
Give an example of IaaS.
Renting time on a cloud-based web server to run your own app.
“…web service providers, where you can buy time on a particular web server…” (2:41–2:44)
What is Platform as a Service (PaaS)?
A cloud model where the provider manages the platform and tools, while you build and manage the application.
You don’t have direct control of the data, people, or infrastructure
“…tools necessary to build this particular app… you build out those blocks to create your own application.” (3:00–3:21)
Give an example of PaaS.
Salesforce.com, which provides tools for building custom applications.
“…something like salesforce.com…” (3:40–3:42)
In a cloud responsibility matrix, who is responsible for everything in on-prem infrastructure?
The customer.
“…on prem, everything… is the responsibility of the customer.” (4:06–4:14)
What does the provider manage in IaaS?
Physical data center, network, and host hardware; customer manages the OS and apps.
“…you have the physical data center… provided by the cloud provider.” (4:17–4:24)
In PaaS, who shares responsibility for network and application controls?
Responsibility is shared between the customer and the provider.
“…network controls, applications… may be shared between the customer and the cloud provider.” (4:31–4:36)
What is the provider responsible for in SaaS?
All application-level services, including management, updates, and storage.
“…everything associated with the applications is… responsibility of the provider.” (4:50–4:53)
