What is the Crime Control Model?
A system of criminal justice that seeks to quickly and efficiently deal with criminals as if they were on a conveyor belt
Protection of rights falls on victim, suggests police should have more power.
Links to Zero Tolerance approach that is found in right realism
What is the Due Process Model?
Focuses on the presumption of innocence and the need to ensure that the trial process is completely fair- and that police power should be limited to prevent oppression of the individual
Relates to the left realism approach as it focuses on the inequalities created by a capitalist society
Examples of laws that support the Crime Control Model
Allowing the introduction of ‘bad character’ evidence and previous convictions when deliberating a verdict
Removal of the Double Jeopardy rule for murder and serious offences
