Steps to inserting IDC in woman?

Answer 5

1. Hand hygiene and set up aseptic field on dressing trolley
2. Open sterile gloves on the side, pour saline onto tray and place IDC catheter onto sterile field, place lubricant and 10ml syringe on field too
3. Perform aseptic hand wash and don gloves
4. Drape patient
5. Connect 10ml syringe with WFI to the Catheter for inflating balloon and bring they kidney dish in front of patient for easier access
6. Use one hand to seperate labia and expose urethral opening - swab saline soaked gauze held with forceps to wipe the opening (swab up to down)
7. Lubricate catheter and urethral opening
8. Insert catheter and make sure the end is inside kidney dish to catch leaking I
   Urine - inflate balloon with 10mls
9. Place taping to inside of thigh to secure the catheter
