GAS LAWS Flashcards

1
Q

BOYLES LAW

A
  • If temperature remains constant, the volume of gas is
inversely proportional to the absolute pressure
  • Gas expands as pressure decreases – why a diver needs
    to exhale when ascending

Q

DALTONS LAW

A
  • The pressure exerted by each gas in a mixture is the
same pressure that the gas would exert if it alone
    occupied the same volume
  • Gas expansion causes the partial pressure of oxygen to
drop as gas molecules move father apart, reducing the
    available oxygen

Q

HENRYS LAW

A
  • At a constant temperature, the solubility of a gas in a
liquid solution is proportionate to the partial pressure of
    gas
  • More gas can be dissolved into a liquid at higher
    pressure and vice versa
