What is the anatomical position?
Supine palms facing upwards, body is erect, feet together, thumbs pointed away from the body
What does caudal vs cranial mean?
Caudal= toward the back/tail
Cranial= toward the head
What does bilateral vs unilateral mean in anatomical terms?
bilateral= involving both sides of the body
unilateral= involving one side of the body
What does ipsilateral and contralateral mean in anatomy terms?
ispilateral= on the same side of the body
contralateral= on opposite sides of the body
What does parietal vs visceral mean in anatomy terms?
Parietal= relating to a body cavity wall
Visceral= relating to organs within body cavity
What does prone and supine mean in anatomy terms?
Prone= lying on the stomach
Supine= lying on the back
What does medial and lateral mean in anatomy terms?
Medial= towards the midline of the body
Lateral= Away from the midline of the body
What does proximal and distal mean in anatomy terms?
Proximal= towards the reference point
Distal= away from the reference point
What does Cephalad/cranial vs caudal/caudad mean?
head vs tail
What does anterior vs posterior mean in anatomy?
Anterior= towards the front
Posterior= towards the back
What does dorsal vs ventral mean?
Posterior vs anterior
