A

The acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of electronic information in a health care setting.

ALSO Provides umbrella framework to describe the comprehensive management of health information across computerized systems and its secure exchange between consumers, providers, government and quality entities, and insurers.

Health Information Exchange (HIE)

A

The mobilization of health care information electronically across organizations within a region, community or hospital system.

Allows doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other health care providers and patients to appropriately access and securely share a patient’s vital medical information electronically—improving the speed, quality, safety and cost of patient care.

A
