  • The support of friends & family when starting out & trying to progress, can encourage
  • Financial resources- as money is required to pay for specialist equipment, travelling expenses & specialist coaching
  • Socioeconomic status- an individuals position in social structure which depends on their job, level of income & area they live in
  • Educational providers such as schools- if experience at school is a positive one & there are strategies & policies in place to encourage talented individuals to progress then they are more likely to progress- this can be links w local clubs w high level coaches& specialist facilities to train in
  • The prescene or absence of equal opportunities & anti discriminatory practice within sport- such policies are important in working against any potential barriers which can negatively impact an individuals progression through sport

for example if there are issues linked to sexism where opportunities for women to develop in a sport are negatively effected by male perceptions of their capabilities, action must be taken to challenge such perceptions

- The EIS is a subsidiary of UK sport & wholly owned by them
- EIS receives a grant of £40 million over four years from UK sport & generates its own income by providing services to NGBs such as performance analysis, sports medicine & so on as these are the team which acts behind many of team GB’s most successful Olympians & Paralympians.

Sport Science:Exercise physiology Is one aspect of sport science provided at the national institutes of sport, including the EIS.
- Work in this area is highly important in elite performer development as helps evaluate training as it happens, allowing coaches & athletes to objectively monitor impact of training on the body.

Medical: Sports medicine is particularly important to athletes at the high-performance level.
Made available as quickly as possible at the national institutes of sport such as the EIS & includes services such as physiotherapy & strength & conditioning coaches

Performance lifestyle support:Available to all athletes on the world class performance programme.
Provides a personalised support environment necessary for their success. This support aims to minimise potential concerns, conflicts & distractions which could be detrimental to performance
