Where is the depletion region located?
Located between an N-type & P-type S.C. (Consists of -ve and +ve charge)
Which directions does the Depletion Region point?
Depletion Region points from the inner edge of the N-type to the Inner P-type S.C
(+ve → -ve)
P-N junctions consists of three different bias. What are they? State what happens in each of them.
1) No Bias = No battery = No Current flow
2) Forward Bias = (+ve → +ve, -ve → -ve), The Depletion Region Shrinks
3) Reverse Bias = (-ve → +ve), The Depletion Region Widens = Short Circuit
What are Diodes?
Their a type of Extrinsic S.C, and are in the P-N junctions.
In a graph with data of a Valence and Conduction Band, where does the band Gap occur?
The Band Gap occurs where the Energy is = 0
When does a graph with a V.B & C.B represent an Insulator? i.e what value
When the Band Gap (Energy = 0) > 3eV
When the Band Gap (Energy = 0) in a graph is < 3eV, what does it represent?
Semi-Conductor
How does a graph with a V.B & C.B represent a Conductor?
If the Band Gap doesn’t cross in the graph, since Conductors band gap = 0 (don’t have one)
If the Bang Gap is = 4eV, what is it?
Insulator
When the band Gap is = 3eV, what is it?
Semi-Conductor
In Forward Bias, which way does the Electric Field travel? **
Electric Field always occurs/flows to inside the N-type S.C → Inside the P-type S.C**
In Reverse Bias which way do the electrons flow?
Electrons flow away from the Electric Field
Which is larger: Depletion Region (Forward Bias) Or Depletion Region (Reverse Bias)?
Depletion Region (Reverse Bias) > Depletion Region (Forward Bias)
