Alferi describes Eddie’s appearnce at the first meeting, and he senses Eddie as a paranormal beast with fears. Furthermore, the last section of the quote conveys Eddie is unable to be controlled by others. As the play progresses, the auidence will reaslize the “passion” mentioned is toward Catheriene. However, it is an unconisous passion that Eddie has never noticed or admitted. Thus, Alferir descibed it as “a stranger”.
