Lady Macbeth is ambitious for the crown, and so is Macbeth. But Lady Macbeth knows the her husband is too soft and kind to actually follow- through
“Why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image does unfix my hair”
Macbeth understands that killing the king and distrusting the divine right of kings is a terrible crime but he can’t stop thinking about it.
“Stars hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires”

After the witches prophecy that he’d become thane of Cawdor and becoming king, he is named Cawdor. He stars considering possibility of becoming king
He’s aware they’re dark desires and so doesn’t want anyone to see
“Vaulting ambition that o’erleaps itself”

He acknowledges that killing Duncan is an overwhelming desire, that could also lead to his downfall and he’s aware of the dangers
“Is this a dagger I see before me”
(Rhetorical question)
He’s in his way to murder king Duncan, and sees a vision of a dagger and is unsure whether it’s real or a figment of his imagination. It reveals Macbeths ambition and uncertainty for his desire for power causing him great distress.
