Q

What has been the key reason for Alsace’s unique (for France) wine styles?

A

As the wines of the region reflect frequent changes of control, in which during recent centuries, control has been passed between Germany and France.
German influence can be seen in the importance of single varietal wines made from aromatic varieties and the less aromatic Pinot Gris.
When Alsace returned to France in 1945, they adopted the AOC system.
