A
  • in the 1970s the Jamaican govt introduced ‘jamaicanisation’ policies designed to attract FDI
  • policies included comparatively high wages + special industry taxes that went directly into social development, healthcare + education
  • tourism has encouraged the development of hard infrastructure as well e.g. cruise passenger terminals in 4 popular locations, private jet centre in Montego Bay, two international airports
  • the revenue from tourism plays a vital part in allowing central + local govt fund economic + social policies
