simple epithelial tissue [first 4 types] Flashcards
types of simple epithelial tissue
squamous, cuboidal, columnar, ciliated, pseudostratified, glandular
state the characteristics of squamous
flat cells, irregular margin, tile-like, single layer, also called pavement tissue, since irregular margin also called the tessellated epithelium
examples of squamous
alveoli of lungs, blood vessels, Bowman’s capsule, descending limb of Henle, lymph, and coelomic cavity.
the function of cuboidal epithelium is
secretion and absorption
examples of normal cuboidal epithelium and brush bordered
1) follicles, ducts and tubules, vesicles of the thyroid gland, germinal epithelium, ascending limb of the loop of Henle.
2) proximal convoluted tubule
state characteristics of columnar epithelium
tall slender cells, single layer, cube-like, they have microvilli [some do] goblet cells are present [ on some ], mucus underlying layer collectively called as mucosa
where are simple and brush-bordered columnar epithelium found
simple- gastro intestinal tract
brush bordered- small intestine
what are the two types of ciliated epithelium ( based on motion)
, its characteristics and eg
kino ciliated: they keep in motion, microtubule arrangement in 9+2, and examples are tracheae, oviduct, ventricles of the brain
stereo ciliated: they are not in motion, arrangement of microtubule is 9+0 examples are inner ear

where is cuboidal ciliated epithelium found,
in smaller bronchioles, lining of kidney tubules
where is columnar ciliated epithelium found
oviduct, fallopian tube, ventricles of the brain and spinal cord
