what are the symptoms of anxiety disorders?
somatic = goosebumps, tense, increased heart rate
emotional = sense of dread, terror
cognitive = anticipation of harm, exaggeration of danger, worries
behavioural = escape, avoidance
types of anxiety disorders
panic disorder = attacks of this disorder are aggravated by stress, irrational thoughts, fear
specific phobias = anticipates terrifying outcomes
GAD = experience persistent fear and worry
social anxiety disorders = fear of public embarrassment, humiliation
what causes panic disorder?
norepinephrine is poorly regulated especially in an area of the brain stem called locus coeruleus and other neurotransmitters such as serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric (GABA) and cholecystokinin (CCK)
