What is a deep abscess?
What are its symptoms/characteristics?
A
An invasive wound infection that can occur after a trauma, surgery, accident etc.
It’s characterised by the presence of
- Oedema
- Erythema
- Pain
- Purulent discharge

What pathogens can deep abscesses be caused by?
A
Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus

What is the treatment for deep abscesses?
A
- Drainage and cleaning
- Antibiotics depending on organism
